THE METRO Manila Film Festival committee revealed Friday night, June 29, the first four official entries to the MMFF 2018.
The films that made the cut based on script submissions include Vice Ganda’s “Fantastica: The Princess, The Prince, and The Perya,” a film-collaboration under Star Cinema and Viva Films. To be directed by Barry Gonzalez, the film also stars Maris Racal, Loisa Andalio, and Maymay Entrata.
Coco Martin and Vic Sotto’s action comedy, “Jack Em Popoy: The Puliscredibles” is also part of the list. A team of “puliscredibles” played by Sotto, Martin and Mendoza takes on a mission to fight crime in their area.
The third entry is Anne Curtis’ “Aurora” with director Yam Laranas; and Quantum Films’ “Girl in the Orange Dress” with Jessy Mendiola and Jericho Rosales.

The other four entries which will be revealed at a later date will be picked from the finished film submissions. (Note: We will update this post once revealed. Updates on this post below.).

The other four films to complete MMFF 2018’s Magic 8 include “Rainbow’s Sunset,” “One Great Love,” “Mary, Marry Me,” and “Otlum.”
Rainbow’s Sunset
Director: Joel Lamangan
Casts: Eddie Garcia, Tony Mabesa, Gloria Romero, Tirso Cruz III, Aiko Melendez, Max Collins and Sunshine Dizon
The family drama written by Palanca Award winner Eric Ramos revolves around the story of 84-year-old Ramon Estrella (Garcia), a retired senator who reveals his true sexuality and temporarily leaves his wife (Romero) to take care of his dying bestfriend (Mabesa). Ramon defies the objection of his children (Melendez, Dizon and Cruz) who all feel scandalized by his move.
With a very good story line, the film is expected to touch hearts with Garcia’s portrayal of the lead character. Garcia recently bagged Best Actor trophies in independent film festivals Cinemalaya and QCinema.
One Great Love
Director: Eric Quizon
Casts: Dennis Trillo, JC De Vera, Kim Chiu, Eric Quizon, Miles Ocampo, Marlo Mortel and Niña Dolino
Zyra Paez, portrayed by Chiu, decided to give her relationship with Carl Mauricio (De Vera) another chance. But along the way, she becomes doubtful of her choices, which brings her to Dr. Ian Arcano (Trillo), her bestfriend who secretly has feelings for her. Now, Zyra is torn between saving a failed relationship and taking the risks of starting a new one.
Mary, Marry Me
Director: RC Delos Reyes
Casts: Toni Gonzaga, Alex Gonzaga, Sam Milby, Bayani Agbayani and Melai Cantiveros
The romantic comedy movie tells the story of two sisters whose relationship is challenged because of one man. Mary Anne (Alex Gonzaga) comes home to marry Pete (Milby) who happened to have a romantic past with her sister Mary Jane (Toni Gonzaga). Things become even more odd as Mary Jane, a professional wedding organizer, takes the helm of the preparation for the event.
Otlum
Director: Joven Tan
Casts: Jerome Ponce, Ricci Rivero, John Estrada, Buboy Villar, Michelle Vito, Vitto Marquez, Danzel Fernandez, Jairus Aquino and Vivoree Esclito
The thriller follows the story of a group of friends who decide to go to a haunted orphanage, and end up getting trapped there.
