ANTON ANTENORCRUZ of Metro Manila and Remy Luntayao of Visayas advanced to the grand finals of ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’ Season 2 Quarter 2 on Friday, October 27 after a weeklong showdown with three other semi-finalists.
Anton and Remy bested Mark Michael Garcia, John Raymundo, and Rico Garcia after the scores of the judges and the public votes were combined. Anton got 98.70 percent combined scores while Remy got 68.40 percent, only a little over Mark Michael Garcia’s total score. Mark on the other hand got 45 percent from the board of judges, three points higher than Remy’s 42 percent. It was the public that made Remy got the spot in the grand finals.
Today’s announcement were made after the five semi-finalists performed for the fifth time this week. Rico Garcia performed ‘I Feel Good’ followed by John Raymundo’s ‘Ngayon.’ Remy got a standing ovation for her version of ‘This is My Life’ while Mark got emotional after his beautiful performance of ‘Win.’ Antenorcruz sealed the deal with his version of ‘Stand Up For Love.’
Anton and Remy joined two other grand finalists Jovany Satera and Alfred Relatado who got their spots during this season’s first quarter. The four grand finalists will compete in the next rounds of the competition.
Mark Garcia’s fans however are still hopeful that he will still have a chance to compete once the competition opens for wildcard competition.
Earlier this week, the five semi-finalists performed daily on the show. ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’ is part of the ABS-CBN noontime show, IT’S SHOWTIME.
The amateur singing competition gathers Filipino contenders from Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The televised version is the latest revival of the original Tawag ng Tanghalan talent search show which debuted in 1953–1972 and later revived in 1987–1988. Among the most popular artists that the competition produced include Nora Aunor, Pepe Pimentel, and Edgar Mortiz.
During its first season aired 2016-2017, Noven Belleza emerged as the grand champion.
