IN THE ABSENCE of sure-hit-shallow films that feature box office stars like Vice Ganda, Vic Sotto, and AiAi delas Alas, among others, the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2016 is under pro-profit people’s scrutiny.
Will the MMFF 2016 box office results favor the organizers? Will the box office earnings show that moviegoers are also interested in quality films rather than commerciality? Will the MMFF 2016 be a success in terms of box office?
The answers to these questions we are yet to know. So, as the festival starts today, December 25, we will keep our eyes on the box office results as we watch all the film entries for our series of movie reviews. Please bookmark this link as we are updating it regularly.
Update: Opening Day Box Office Results show the top four films to be (in alphabetical order): ‘Ang Babae sa Septic Tank 2,’ ‘Die Beautiful,’ ‘Seklusyon, and ‘Vince & Kath & James.’
At the bottom four are Kabisera, Oro, Saving Sally, and Sunday Beauty Queen.
While the actual figures are yet to be released, our insiders say leading in the box office is Star Cinema’s ‘Vince and Kath and James’ starring Julia Barretto, Joshua Garcia and Ronnie Alonte. Following in the second and third spots are ‘Die Beautiful’ featuring Paolo Ballesteros, and ‘Ang Babae sa Septic Tank 2′ featuring Eugene Domingo, respectively.
