FILIPINA BEAUTY QUEEN Kylie Versoza was crowned Miss International 2016 at the end of the 56th Miss International pageant, held on October 27 at the Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo, Japan.
Last year’s winner, Edymar Martínez from Venezuela crowned the teary-eyed Verzosa who later on thanked her supporters from the Philippines and all over the world.
The 24-year-old beauty wowed the world when she said during her speech she would promote cultural and international understanding should she win Miss International.
“If I become Miss International 2016, I will devote myself to cultural understanding and international understanding because I believe that it is in developing in each of us sensitivity to other cultures that we expand our horizons, tolerate difference and appreciate diversity,” Versoza said.

Versoza’s win followed the runner-up finish of another Filipina beauty, Nicole Cordoves, at the newly-concluded Miss Grand International pageant in Las Vegas a day before.
It was the sixth Miss International crown for the Philippines. Previous Filipina winners of Miss International are Bea Rose Santiago (2013), Precious Lara Quigaman (2005), Mimilanie Marquez (1999), Aurora Pijuan (1970), and Gemma Cruz (1964).
Born in Baguio City, Versoza graduated from Ateneo de Manila University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. It can be recalled that the pre-school teacher-turned-model was the ultimate favorite to win right to represent the Philippines in the famed Miss Universe competition during the local pageant earlier this year. However, it was Maxine Medina who was chosen to represent the country in Miss Universe, which will be held in the Philippines in January 2017.
Alexandra Britton of Australia won first runner-up, ending the two-decade drought for her country who was last made it to this pageant’s finals over 20 years ago.
Indonesia’s Felicia Hwang placed second runner-up, which was a good follow up to the country’s first win in yesterday’s Miss Grand International.
Nicaragua´s Brianny Chamorro won third runner-up while Kaityrana Leinbach of the USA repeated the country’s fourth runner-up last year.
In terms of production, Miss International 2016 is definitely one of the most boring competitions so far. It’s a good thing however that though it lacks glamour, it’s valuable contribution to the pageant world can never be underestimated. With Versoza’s winning, the Miss International organization could only expect all out support from Filipino pageant fans all over the world. Kudos, Kylie!
