THIS IS PROBABLY the wierdest, if not the stupidest news about Metro Manila Film Festival 2015.

The MMMFF executive committee has disqualified frontrunner ‘Honor Thy Father‘ from competing for the much-coveted Best Picture award a day before the MMFF 2015 Awards night set on December 27.

In a letter addressed to the film’s producer, Ronald Stephen Monteverde of Reality Entertainment, committee chairman Atty. Emerson Carlos cited non-disclosure of its participation as opening film at this year’s Cinema One Originals served as ground for disqualification.

Below is the letter from Atty. Carlos posted on social media by Monteverde himself as they cry foul over the decision.

On his facebook post, Monteverde said MMFF committee has been made aware of the film’s premiere at Cinema One Originals, and that they’re allowed to having two premieres. The committee also approved it, provided that it is non-revenue generating.

Moreover, Monteverde questioned “the reasons, the timing, and the means in implementing the decision.” They also demand answers and explanation about it.

Directed by award-winning director Erik Matti and penned by award-winning writer Michico Yamamoto, ‘Honor Thy Father‘ features John Lloyd Cruz and Meryll Soriano.

The action-drama flick is MMFF 2015’s finest film but remains at the tail of the box office race due to poor acceptance of the viewing public. During its opening day on December 25, it nearly garnered half a million ticket sales, and as of press time, several cinemas are starting to pull the film out.
